Together for Israel and the Jewish people

  DECLARATION 2024

Israel5.jpgNorge.jpg

Background for the petition

After October 7, Israel and the Middle East will never be the same. Christian leaders and pastors have been invited to come to Israel, to show their support. And to stand up and speak the truth regarding Norway's relationship with Israel.   As a result, Thure Eriksen, Geir Martin Økland and Knut Tømmerbakk have initiated and started this petition for anyone who support the declaration. There is also an appendix with in-depth justifications and references.   Introduction As Christian leaders and individuals, we will ask for forgiveness concerning what our nation has been involved in, before and in the past, which has harmed the lives and living conditions of the Jews in Norway and in the nation of Israel. We will also declare Israel's right to existence with liveable conditions.     Declaration: Forgive us, Israel!

Norwegian government

It took several days before Norway finally called Hamas a terrorist organistion, following the terrorist attack on October 7. (1) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised the King not to extend condolences to Israel, advice which the King followed. (2) Such a lack of empathy and malicious attitudes from a country like Norway is alarming.   On March 7, 24, the Norwegian government issued a press release advising against trade and commercial activity with Israeli settlements, depicting Judea and Samaria as occupied territory. (3) We distance ourselves from this. Judea and Samaria are the original lands of the Jews, (4) and encouraging boycott of companies that have many of their employees in a painful war makes life more difficult for many already hard-pressed Israelis. We acknowledge with sadness that Norway did not support the WHO declaration calling for the immediate release of all hostages held in Gaza, and condemning the use of hospitals and ambulances for war purpose... (5)   In the aftermath of October 7, the political leadership in Norway has appeared half-hearted in distancing itself from Jew-hatred. (6) Now the demonization of Jews, anti-Israel news, and harassment of Jews is at a new height, as before World War II. (7)   During demonstrations against Israel's defence campaign against Hamas, slogans calling for the eradication of Israel from the map have been shouted, such as "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free." (8) The same kind of slogans were spread also on social media, and in other ways. This is an incitement to genocide. Such statements have not been punished or curbed by the Norwegian state and police. The Norwegian government continues to support UNRWA, which employs terrorists among its staff, and teaches the children in schools in the Palestinian Territories, hatred of Israel and the Jews. (9) (10) (11)   Norway as a nation has not yet recognized Jerusalem as the country's capital. Although Jerusalem has been chosen by Israel as its capital, and since the time of King David, about 3000 years ago, it has not been the capital of any other country than Israel.   Forgive us as a nation, Israel

Norway's international work for peace in Israel

Norway took the initiative for the Oslo Accords in 1993, which called for the division of Israel. The Oslo Accords led to the establishment of the "Palestinian Authority". Together, they and Israel were to achieve a coexistence where they could live peacefully together. (12) The leaders of the Palestinian Authority have for these 30 years supported terror and taught the young generation to hate Jews and Israel. We acknowledge with sorrow the Norwegian government's recognition of "Palestine" on May 28, 2024, where Israel's borders are set according to the 1949 armistice lines. (15) We regret Norway's official lack of support for Israel in the challenging and defensive war they are engaged in, while on the other hand they support the creation of a nation that engages in terror. Hamas thanked Norway for this. (16) Forgive us as a nation, Israel

The war and its victims

Israel has been inflicted indescribable suffering by the terror, and the hostage-taking on October 7, and the subsequent war. Many soldiers have also been killed. Families have been evacuated, and there is pressure to live under the threats from Hamas and other terrorist organizations. The people of Gaza are also suffering from the war. Hamas terrorists wear civilian clothes, use civilians as shields, and fire rockets from populated areas, and public buildings. Hezbollah in Lebanon is also doing the same. Israel makes a commendable effort to avoid harming civilians, but it is impossible in such a densely populated area. Gaza has a border with Egypt, and a coastline towards the Mediterranean Sea. If other countries had wanted to, and followed the UN's refugee charter, they would have taken in civilians, women and children. A lack of open borders and hearts in other countries means that children and civilians are suffering in Gaza. Forgive us Israel for Norway not doing enough for those who are suffering in Israel, Gaza and other countries, because of war against Israel.

The Church of Norway, and congregations in Norway

Replacement theology (17) has provided fertile ground for anti-Semitism, and we ask for forgiveness for all anti-Semitic attitudes and anti-Zionist attitudes that have been in the church from the beginning, until today. We ask for forgiveness for priests and bishops who have condemned Israel's defence fight, and for those who have called for a boycott of Israel. Too many churches and Christian leaders have not sufficiently preached clearly and enough about Israel in our circles and stood up for the truth in the public space. Forgive us as a church and congregations Israel

Education and media

We acknowledge with sorrow that several educational institutions in Norway UNS (18) and (UIS) 19) have broken off academic cooperation with Israel. We regret that many different media throughout Norwegian society, including Norwegian schoolbooks, and Encyclopaedias (20) have provided incomplete and biased portrayals of the conflict in the Middle East, presenting Israel in a poor light. (21) Forgive us as a nation, Israel.

Jews in Norway

In a survey, 81.6 percent of all Jews say that experiences after October 7 have made them consider whether Norway is a safe country for Jews, (22) which has resulted in already one Jewish family in Norway feeling forced to leave the country and travel to Israel. (23) Forgive us as a nation, Israel

Proclamation

We confirm that Israel has the right to defend itself against attacking forces and against terrorists, and the right to a have secure borders. We proclaim that with Norway's approval of Palestine, the Oslo Accords are dead. Israel is a Nation that has blessed the world with advances in technology, research, and agriculture, among other things. Norway has a calling to cooperate with Israel. It leads to blessing for both parties. We recognize that Norway has been blessed because we have built our nation on the Bible and our Judeo-Christian heritage. Norway has a calling to bless, cooperate with and support Israel and the Jews.  As Christians, we acknowledge God's promises to Israel, also regarding the land. We distance ourselves from all forms of replacement theology.  We recognize that the Messiah is a Jew, and that salvation comes from the Jews.   There are many who love Israel in Norway and who support the Jews in Norway, we want to stand up and speak the truth about Israel and the Jews!   Our friendship with the Jewish people and the State of Israel is unchanged and stronger than ever.  End

(The following is not part of the declaration, but provides supplementary background information and explanations)

Anti-Semitism in Norway, the Jews' right to the land, Israel's history, and a Christian point of view

Anti-Semitism in Norway

  Antisemitism

To portray Jews, Israelis, or the Land of Israel, as a people or a nation that has inferior morals or character to others, because of their ethnicity or nationality, is anti-Semitism. To make different demands on Israel or Jews than what one uses for oneself or others is anti-Semitism. (VG Nett) [24] Classic examples are the United Nations, which has condemned Israel many times more than any other nation. Or Norway, which was hardly self-critical during the fighting in Afghanistan, or after we had dropped over 500 bombs in Libya, but criticizes Israel for specific attacks against terrorists, in which civilians die because they are used as shields by the terrorists.

The attitude of the church and the state towards the Jews up to 1851

From the first religious writings regarding Jews in Norway, in the 1200s, the Jews receive negative publicity. In a provincial statute, for the Church of Norway, from 1436, Archbishop Aslak Bolt prohibits celebrating the Sabbath in the Jewish way. [25] Then there are writings about extra taxes for Jews and other restrictions throughout history, until 1814.[26] When we got the Constitution of 1814, it had a clause until 1851, which denied Jews access to the Reich. [27]

The Lutheran State Church to the present day

Luther writes about the Jews, "On the Jews and their lies"[28] has inflicted much evil on the Jews. The scriptures became a guide and inspiration for the Nazis and their atrocities against the Jews before and during World War II. After the war, bishops of the Norwegian Lutheran State Church,[29] for a number of years, have for a number of years issued unilateral condemnations of Israel's measures to defend itself against terrorism. [30]

Large Norwegian media institutions

Norwegian media houses, led by NRK, have for many decades (at least since 1980) (31) portrayed the conflict between Israel and the Arabs in or around Israel in a way that suggests the Jews are the powerful oppressors of the Arabs' resistance movement against Israel, portraying the Arabs as the underdog. This has led to a media narrative that has under communicated and trivialized attacks on the state of Israel and the Jews while exaggerating Israel's measures to defend the country and its inhabitants. One has not shown the whole picture, where Iran is behind and supports, both Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis. And that the great powerful "Arab League" with 22 states, which has in its charter that Palestine should be free, is also on the side of the Arabs. (32) The same is true of the world's second largest organization after the UN, with 57 nations, the "Organization of Islamic Cooperation"(33), which has in its charter: “To support and empower the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self  determination and establish their sovereign State with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, while safeguarding its historic and Islamic character as well as the Holy places therein” (34) The incorrect media image has contributed to anti-Semitic attitudes and demonization of Israel and Jews. A classic example is that statements from Gaza's Ministry of Health are referred to as if they were a statement from any neutral person government department, while failing to say that it is a department subject to the terrorist organisation Hamas. It is as if IS got its place in the Norwegian media, when the war against them took place in Iraq and Syria. On the other hand, Israel is not asked for its opinion,  or what is said from the Israeli side, is portrayed as subjective.

Politicians

Many Norwegian politicians, especially on the left, have broken with the good legacy of Trygve Lie and other Labor Party politicians who supported the Jews' right to their own country and their right to exist and defend themselves (36) This has been replaced with historically ignorant and one-sided condemnation of Israel's right to defend itself, based on the twisted media narrative that has been promoted for many years.   Big politics When the state of Israel was established in 1948, Norway voted in favour of its establishment. Norway was also a supporter of Israel in the first years, including by selling heavy water to Israel. This led to Norway having the confidence of the Israelis, and based on this, Norway actively participated in the peace negotiation initiative that led to the Oslo Accords 1 and 2. It was to lead to peaceful coexistence between Israel and an Arab self-government in Judea and Samaria and Gaza. Any recognition of a "Palestine" was not included in the Oslo 1 agreement. More autonomy was outlined in the Oslo 2 agreement. (37) However, negotiations were not finalised when the Palestinian Authority did not show a willingness to peacefully coexist and to stop terrorism, within the deadline of 1999. The second Intifada started in the early 2000s (38), and since then there has not been a broad will, among leaders in the Palestinian Authority, to live in peaceful coexistence with Israel. When Norway now, in the middle of a war, approves a "Palestinian" state, the terrorist organization Hamas is indirectly legitimized, and further negotiations, with the goal of a possible Palestinian state is useless. No country in the world will or can accept a neighbouring state that uses terror worse than what ISIS use, so close to its own borders. The international attempt to create a peaceful state called Palestine has failed and should be canceled. Israel withdrew from Lebanon, in exchange for the UN, including Norways guarantee, that promised that an enemy army would not be built up with the aim of attacking Israel in the country. It failed completely, as Hezbollah has imported over 150,000 rockets into the country, which are aimed at Israel. (39) Lebanon must bear the consequence of not having removed Hezbollah, when Israel repels Hezbollah's war against Israel.   BDS in Norway. Norway has had fruitful cooperation with Israel in many areas, from buying fruit and selling salmon to cooperation in the oil and research sectors. In recent years, more voices have called for a boycott of Israel, and it has become increasingly politically incorrect to openly state that one cooperates with Israel. This is especially promoted by political parties on the left and "Palestine" organizations. (40)   School books, and public encyclopaedias Schoolbooks and public reference works, promote a historical image of Israel and the time before and after the establishment of the state that is coloured by negativity towards Israel, favouring the Arabs called "Palestinians." Jews in Norway Jews have sometimes faced poor conditions in Norway, peaking before and during World War II when there was much hatred and falsehoods about the Jews. The worst was the deportation of Jews to death camps during World War II, mainly carried out by Norwegian police collaborating locally with the Nazis. Now, the demonization of Jews and anti-Israel news and harassment of Jews are at a new height. .   Government The Norwegian government supported the establishment of the state of Israel, and we had good cooperation for many years. Norway has tried to be a mediator between Israel and the Arabs for many years. Now, Norway's Foreign Minister, amid a war against the terrorist organization Hamas, rewards the terrorists by recognizing that they have their own state. This is fictitious but a slap in the face to Israel. Norway has experienced terror firsthand, with the terrorist attack on Utøya. We were also part of the international coalition that attacked Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan after the September 11 attack in the USA. We should have a clear condemnatory stance against all forms of terror.

The Jews' right to the land, according to the Bible and international law The Promise of the Land to Abraham In Genesis chapter 12, God promises Abraham the land to him and his descendants. In chapter 15, God makes a covenant with Abraham in where God confirms the promise to Abraham's descendants.  V 17 "To your family I have given this land, from the pupil of Egypt to the great pupil Euphrates". In addition, Abraham buys a piece of land with the Makapela cave where Sarah was buried for 400 shekels of silver. This is stated in Genesis chapter 23. Joshua receives a description of the land when he stands on the banks of the Jordan. Joshua 1 v 2-4 "My servant Moses is dead. Now get ready to cross the Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I  will give to them, to the Israelites. Every place you set foot in, I give to you, just as I promised Moses. Their territory shall extend from the wilderness and Lebanon to the great river Euphrates, the whole of the Hittite country, and all the way out to the Great Sea, where the sun goes down". The promise is also repeated in many other places in the Bible. (41) It also states that the country does not should be sold, because it belongs to God. Leviticus, 25 v23.

Temporary exile when the people sinned against God

The land was at its height under Solomon, then many of the kings and parts of the the people at times turned away from God. In Numbers chapter 4 v 25 to 30 Moses says that the Lord romised to punish them when they turned away from Him, by sending them away from the land, but He promised that they would return to God, and then He would remember the covenant with them. (42) The people were sent away to Babylon but were allowed to return after 70 years, but they did not return lasting about. The judgment was pending, and in Luke 19 v 41-44 Jesus wept over Jerusalem.   In the year 70, the Romans cracked down heavily on the Jews' struggle for freedom. The temple was demolished and many of the The Jews were massacred. (43) The Jewish Bar Kobah rebellion 132-136, lasted about four years. It was a defeat for the Roman Empire that the Jews managed to secede and establish their own independent country for so many years, inside the Roman Empire. The Romans cracked down it, killed many Jews, and sold many as Slaves. (44) Thereafter, the jews rebelled in 351-352 the Gallius rebellion. [44,1] Then it took almost 2000 years before the nation of Israel arose as independent nation again.

Calculation of when the people would be allowed to return to their land

God told Jeremiah that they would be allowed to return after their 70-year sentence in Babylon. Jer 29v 10 God says to Ezekiel that He shal lie 390 days on the side for all the years Israel had sinned.  and 40 days for the sins of Judah, which had lasted for 40 years. Ezekiel 4v 4-6 A total of 430 years. (45)   If one subtracts the 70 years the people had been in Babylon, then  the 360 years the people must atone for. In Leviticus 26v 27-28 it says: If you do not listen to me, but sit up against me, then I, for my part, will rebel against you in wrath and chastise you seven  times as hard for their sins. 360 years times 7 = 2520 years An Old Testament year is 360 days. To convert to our calculation method, we take 2520 * 360 /365.25 = 2483.778432 or 2483 years and 9 months and about 10 days The Israelites returned from Babylon in the year 536 BC, and they started to sacrefice in the beginning of the 7th month of Tizlev. Ezra 3 v 1. In that year, this month was October, after our calendar (46). Then they must have arrived a couple of months before, to establish their homes, and to setle. Then we are in beginning of August. Then If you take 536 BC, plus 2483 it will be August 1947. Add 9 months and 10  That will be medio May 1948. (On May 14, 1948, the State of Israel was proclaimed)

International law

The Balfour Declaration   In 1917, the British government promised to establish a Jewish land in the "Palestine" area. (47)

San Remo Conference.

During the San Remo Conference under the auspices of the League of Nations, the forerunner of the United Nations, the division of the Ottoman Empire was negotiated. It was decided at that conference that the Jews should get a country. (48) The land area was both what is Israel today and what is now Jordan. (49) In comparison, Norway was given the right to ownership of Svalbard by the "Svalbard Treaty" that was signed in 1920, under similar conditions as the San Remo Conference. (50)

The UN's decision on a nation for the Jews

In 1947, Britain gave the task of handing over to the UN the land they had promised to the Jews. They came up with a proposal that received a majority. It wasthat the Jews would get their land in the area called "Palestine", where Britain had also promised to establish the Jewish state. The year before, the Kingdom of Transjordan had been established. (51) Lebanon also became independent in 1946. (52) The surrounding Arab countries would not accept any proposal for a Jewish state in the middle of the former Ottoman Empire. The reason for this must also be seen in the light of religious politics. All the surrounding countries were Muslim, and that a former Muslim area should be given to a people with a different religion would be perceived by most Muslim leaders as a defeat for Islam, and as Islam losing face. Probably to try to accommodate the Arab countries, the UN came up with a proposal to divide the land area into an Israeli area and one that was not part of Israel. In a security policy perspective, it cannot be defended. All countries that are established must have the opportunity for secure borders around them, and not have a hostile nation within their own external borders. Nevertheless, the Jews thanked them for the land they were given and proclaimed the State of Israel. (53) The Arab countries did not accept the draft agreement. (54)

History

Palestine

. To dishonor the Jews and the land, the Romans gave the country a new name: “Phillistine”, after Israel's historical enemy, the Philistines (who are an extinct people). The name followed the area, and bore the name "Palestine" during the Ottoman Empire, and further under the British up to 1948. No other countries were established in that area, but the land area of Israel was periodically under different greater dominions. Jews, Arabs, and other people lived in those regions. For example. called the Jewish bank in the country, "Palestine bank", until the establishment of Israel, and the newspaper "Palestine post", changed its name to  Jerusalem Post after Israel's rebirth. We have not been able to find documentation that it ever has existed an independent country, called "Palestine", with its own king, or head of state, or a separate ethnic people named "Palestinians".

From 136 – 1948

After Roman times, the land of Israel came under various rulers. It was conquered by Arabs, and then conquered by Christian crusaders, and then conquered by Muslims. (55) During the last 400 years Until World War I, the land was part of the Ottoman Empire.

Zionism

The dream and idea that the Jews should have their own land had been kept alive among the Jews for 2000 years since the last major expulsion from the land carried out by the Romans in 132 CE. (56) For many hundred years, the Jews have said, "next year in Jerusalem," during the Ester celebration. (57) The idea that it had to happen soon was promoted by Theodor Herzl, (58) who in 1897 said that he believed it would happen soon, and at the latest within 50 years. The land that was the historical Israel had, for centuries, since the end of the Crusades, been a quiet backwater in the world, where little happened.

Immigration

Until the Jewish in immigration began, it was a "dormant territory" with some roads from Roman times.   Mark Twain says in his travelogue from 1867 The land was desolated and dry. (59) When Zionism awakened at the end of the 19th century, a gradual emigration of Jews to historic Israel began. Jewish immigration brought more work, thereby increasing Arab immigration to the land as well. Some Jews, inspired by socialist ideas, started kibbutzim based on Zionist socialism, where they lived communally and cultivated the land. Both Jewish and Arab immigration increased towards the establishment of the state of Israel and continued thereafter. In Israel or the “Palestine area”, there was living: Jews, Druze, Samaritans, Arabs who was Muslims or Christians, Catholics, Protestants, and Orthodox. During history, has it also been a small number of Jews who believed that Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah, known to Christians as Jesus Christ, was the Jewish Messiah. (60) Despite difficult conditions under the Romans and during the Crusades, there has always been a Jewish presence in Israel, including in Hebron, one of the most important holy sites for Jews. This is where the Cave of the Patriarchs (Machpelah) is located, where Sarah and Jacob are buried.

After World War I

England conquered large parts of the Middle East during the First World War under the leadership of Allanby and Laurence of Arabia, then handed out England land to establish their own lands, from the land that had been under it Ottoman Empire. So did The French who also ruled over lands in The Middle East after World War I. Here is a map over an early  partition after the First World War. Subsequently, several land areas were divided and established, as the Republic of Lebanon in May 1926 (61) and Syria, which after a process became independent in 1946. The Kingdom of Transjordan [i]was established in 1946. (62) (The name means the country on the other side of the Jordan.) (63)

Midtøsten.jpg

The people of the country

1900s The level of conflict between mainly Muslim Arabs in Palestine and Jews increased in 1900 Among other things, with the massacre of Jews in Hebron in 1929. (64) After World War II the Jews had to create military groups to defend themselves against Arab attacks. It can also be mentioned that the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem was a collaborator of Hitler, and  They were united in the plan to exterminate the Jews. (65) England did not protect the Jews well enough in this conflict, and they made it difficult for the Jews to defend themselves. 1940- 48 When the State of Israel was proclaimed, the Arabs living in Israel were told by neighboring countries, to move away from the land, so that the surrounding countries could chase the Jews unhindered at sea. Thus, about 600,000 (66) - 750,000 Arabs fled to neighboring countries. (67) Most of them were Arabs who had moved to Palestine, in recent times. Among those who had lived in Israel for many generations, there were not so many who fled. The countries that attacked were Transjordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and Iraq. Note that Iran does not attack. Iran was the most openly secular country, and the Shah of Iran had no need to  stop the  establishment of a Jewish democracy in the Middle East. By a miracle, Israel won the war, and they are expanding the borders of the country. At the same time, around 850,000 Jews were expelled from Arab countries in the Middle East. (68)

1948 to present

Israel has had several wars in 1948–49, 1956, 1967, 1973, 1982, 2006, and 2023 up to this date. Israel has won all the wars, and they has been wars of defece. Thus, the the lands they conquered in war,  belong to Israel. In the same way that England conquered the country from The Turks during World War I. If Israel had lost one, they would have been wiped out. Due to international pressure, Israel has given up land in exchange for peace. Something that has not given the desired result. Among other things all Jews were forcibly removed from Gaza, to give it to the Arabs. The world community rejoiced over this negotiation result, but the result has turned out to be an area of land where there have been built hundreds of kilometers of terror tunnels, and children have been taught to hate Israel. The experiment of the Nations that pressured Israel to give up land, has been shown to be a dead end.

The Bible's distribution of land among the peoples

In the Bible, Genesis chapter 1, God makes promises to Isaac, Abraham's heir, and his firstborn son Ishmael. God blessed both to become great people, and God showed Mercy to both of them. These two became the nations: the Israelites and the Arabs. In Genesis 16v12 it is  written in the Norwegian Bible 1930: about Ishmael: "He will be a deceiver of a man, his hand shall be against all men, and the hands of all shall be against him. He will dwell east of his brothers." In other editions of the Bible, it says: "... He is going to beside his brothers." Both interpretations indicate  that the Arabs live next to the Israelis.

The conflict with Israel from a Christian point of view

As Christians, we are called to be the pillar and foundation of truth. We will love all people, because God's unconditional love was given to us through Jesus Christ, and His death for the sins of all men on the cross. We love Jews and Arabs and all other peoples. But we recognize that the gospel was given to the Jews first, that Jesus was a Jew, and that the people of Israel have been entrusted with writing and preserving the OldTestament. It was also they who wrote the new testamente. As Christians and fellow human beings we find it just as tragic that innocent people die, or are injured, whether they are Jews, Arabs or other people. As Christians, we have an obligation to speak the truth, even if it should be politically incorrect. We want peace for everyone in Israel and the surrounding countries. As Christians, we must create peace. We believe that the UN's partition plan from 1947 was unfortunate. Like every other country needs Israel borders they can defend. A partition with Arabs in Syria, Lebanon and possibly Transjordan and Jews in  Israel, would have been a much better and fairer distribution of The Otomanian area after World War II. Groups of people who promote and reward terror, and systematically teach children to hate and kill others,  should not be allowed to establish a separate state. It turns out that the only thing that can ensure peace for Israel is secure borders that are easy to defend. It will create peace and security for Israel and the surrounding countries.   God has promised to punish those countries that make İsrael divide the land God has given them. Joel 3v7 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you. Genesis 12v3

[42] Deuteronomy 4v 25 After you have had children and grandchildren and have lived in the land a long time—if you then become corrupt and make any kind of idol, doing evil in the eyes of the Lord your God and arousing his anger, 26 I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you this day that you will quickly perish from the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess. You will not live there long but will certainly be destroyed. 27 The Lord will scatter you among the peoples, and only a few of you will survive among the nations to which the Lord will drive you. 28 There you will worship man-made gods of wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or eat or smell. 29 But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul. 30 When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the Lord your God and obey him. 31 For the Lord your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your ancestors, which he confirmed to them by oath.

So for 390 days you will bear the sin of the people of Israel. 6 “After you have finished this, lie down again, this time on your right side, and bear the sin of the people of Judah. I have assigned you 40 days, a day for each year.
