Justice and Safety for Gert Regterschot: End the Years of Neglect and Threats

A beloved university lecturer is on the brink of homelessness—despite giving decades of service to education and society. He now faces threats, identity theft, and the real risk of losing everything. He needs our protection and immediate action from Vesteda and public authorities.

Most urgently, Gert has now been evicted from his home. His residence was entered without his consent, and his belongings—both personal and professional—were removed. This happened despite there being no rent arrears and while his bank account remains blocked due to unresolved issues. The eviction has left him without a stable place to live and without access to his possessions. For someone who has contributed so much to the academic and local community, this outcome is both distressing and difficult to justify.

Gert Regterschot is not just a name—he is a cornerstone of the Eindhoven academic community. A lecturer at TU/e since 1988, he teaches over 30 university courses a year and has supported hundreds of students annually, many of whom credit him with shaping their academic and personal development. Beyond his university work, he offers free Sunday lessons to children from low-income families, believing deeply that every child deserves a fair chance.

And yet, despite all this, Gert is now facing eviction from his home in Eindhoven. His bank account remains blocked, his identity has been stolen, and his email hacked. He has no stable access to income—not because he doesn’t deserve it, but because of a decades-long institutional failure: his salary from TU/e was wrongly stopped in 1995, and he has been fighting ever since for what he is owed.

Now, due to data breaches by housing company Vesteda, criminal groups have accessed his personal information. Gert has endured multiple threats—including one with a firearm—by groups posing as debt collectors. His home has already been broken into once, and he fears coming back from work to find it looted again.

Vesteda has made no effort to contact Gert or resolve this peacefully, despite receiving a detailed report from him in December 2024. Yet he is up to date on rent, with payments secured through May 2025 and a positive balance of €24,900 in his favor.

Why, then, is this man—who has spent his life giving to others—being pushed toward homelessness?

We, the undersigned, demand:

  1. Immediate suspension of all eviction proceedings against Gert Regterschot.

  2. Protection and security for Gert and his home, including a formal investigation into the threats and breaches he has reported.

  3. A transparent conversation between Vesteda, TU/e, and municipal authorities to resolve the financial and legal injustices he has faced.

  4. Public recognition of his contributions, and support to restore his dignity and safety.

Gert is not just a tenant or an employee—he is a mentor, a public servant, and a defender of fair treatment within and beyond the university. For decades, he stood up against misconduct within institutions. It is time we stand up for him.

Please sign this petition to protect Gert Regterschot from eviction and harm, and to restore justice to someone who has spent his life fighting for others.
